Counseling Services
Examples of how Dr. Pereira of St. Kitts Counseling Services can help
Individual, couples and family therapy, consultation, assessment, and crisis management
Individual Therapy
During individual therapy, clients work one-on-one with Dr. Pereira—in a safe, caring, and confidential environment—to explore their thoughts, beliefs, feelings or behaviors, work through challenging experiences, identify aspects of their lives that they would like to change, better understand themselves and others, and work toward desired changes. Individual therapy can be helpful for a wide range of difficulties, ranging from coping with major life challenges or childhood trauma, to dealing with depression, anxiety or anger, to simply desiring personal growth and greater self-understanding.
Couples Therapy
Couples therapy is a process through which a couple works with Dr. Pereira to identify areas of conflict and/or aspects of their relationship they would like to change, and then develop a plan to improve each individual’s satisfaction in the relationship. Working with Dr. Pereira in a safe and confidential setting, couples are able to explore how their individual backgrounds, beliefs, thoughts, and behaviors may be impacting their relationship in both positive and negative ways. Dr. Pereira may assist the couple with addressing immediate problems, as well as developing long-term strategies for enhancing health and happiness.
Family Therapy
Family therapy may be helpful towards resolving a specific issue, preparing the family for a major life change such as a divorce, or addressing the role that family plays in an individual’s life. Depending on the needs and goals of the family, different combinations of family members may participate in each therapy session.
Consultation
The purpose of a consultation session is to determine if the therapy and services Dr. Pereira provides will match your needs. In this session, you and Dr. Pereira will discuss your concerns, work towards determining goals to guide therapy, and discuss expected duration of therapy. Some testing may also be done to better understand your difficulties.
Assessment
During assessments, Dr. Pereira uses a combination of norm-referenced psychological tests, informal tests and surveys, and clinical interviews in order to evaluate your difficulties. Taken together, assessments allow us to better understand a full range of your strengths and weaknesses.
Crisis Management
A psychological crisis exists when an individual is threatening harm to themselves or to harm others, or is out of touch with reality due to severe drug reactions or psychological problems. During crisis management, Dr. Pereira provides immediate and short-term psychological care to ensure safety and to minimize the potential of long-term psychological difficulties.
